A pickup truck (also pick-up truck or pickup) is a light vehicle with an open-top rear cargo area (bed) which is separated from the cab to allow the chassis to flex when carrying or pulling heavy loads.

There are several vehicles, Chevrolet El Camino, Ford Ranchero, Dodge Rampage, Honda Ridgeline and Subaru Baja, which have beds but are not trucks.

North American pickups come in full-size, mid-size, and compact.
